On the Water

Kayaking:

Spokane and the region are blessed to be home to so many different lake and river spots. Here are a few different locations where you can get your kayak out and enjoy a leisurely ride.

Little Spokane River:

The Little Spokane River is probably one of the most popular kayaking spots in the area. The river snakes through luscious wildlife filled natural area. Access at St. George’s School and travel 6 miles to the Spokane River. Other entrances include access at Painted Rocks for a midway put-in or take-out if you aren’t feeling the full 6-mile trip. Discover passes are required for parking.

Coeur d’Alene River:

The Coeur d’Alene River offers a 9-mile stretch of water with a shuttle services offered by the River Fly Shop. One neat thing about this stretch is the bike trail that follows along parallel to the river. Beware of one paddling hazard: a 90 degree turn about a third of the way in from the start.

Hidden Spokane River:

This is the most centrally located stretch of the Spokane River. Several points of entry have opened up from Upriver Dam to Division. After you enter at Upriver Dam there are several exit points to make your trip as long or short as you would like. ROW Adventures and Fun Unlimited both offer paddle board and kayak options for paddling on this section of the Spokane River.

Liberty Lake:

Those looking for more of a float than a paddle should look into taking their paddle out on Liberty Lake. The lake is small and very calm, and great for kids. Take your kayak out at the boat launch and spend as much time out on the water as you would like. Wear your sunscreen!

River Floating:

Ever wanted to take a relaxing float down the Spokane River? Make sure you are being safe and taking the best routes to make your day awesome and enjoyable. The safest time of year is July through mid-August, where the currents will be calmer. Float with Flow Adventures to ensure safety while floating. Flow Adventures chooses to start their floating at Peoples Park at Sandifur Bridge. A recommended exit place is T.J. Meenach Bridge, this will allow for a safer ride. Avoid Bowl & Pitcher and the Devil’s Toenail, which are considered class three rapids.
